Terms of Service

Version 2026-10-04. When these change, you'll be asked to accept the new version before posting again.

1. Who we are and what these terms cover

ten4 (ten-4.us) is a social network for truckers and the people who travel with them. It's run by its administrator (the "operator", "we"). These terms cover your use of ten4, including the website, your account, and everything you post. By requesting an account, joining with an invite, or using ten4 you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use ten4.

2. Who can join

• You must be at least 18 years old. We delete accounts we learn belong to someone younger.
• Accounts are approved by an admin. We can decline a request without giving a reason.
• One person per account. Your handle is yours for as long as the account exists and can't be changed.
• Keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what's posted from your account.

3. Safe for work: what you can't post

ten4 is safe-for-work, everywhere, always. That covers posts, replies, photos, videos, profile photos, display names, and bios. Do not post:

• Nudity or sexual content of any kind, including "suggestive" photos, sexual jokes aimed at someone, or links to adult sites.
• Graphic violence, gore, or injury, including real crash or accident scenes that show injured or dead people.
• Hate speech or slurs, or attacks on people for their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or age.
• Harassment, bullying, threats, or encouraging anyone to harm themselves or others.
• Someone else's private information: home addresses, phone numbers, real-time locations, license plates or DOT/MC numbers aimed at targeting a person, or photos of people taken to embarrass them.
• Anything illegal: drugs for sale, weapons trafficking, fraud, scams, stolen loads or cargo, or advice on evading inspections, hours-of-service rules, or law enforcement in ways that put people at risk.
• Spam: ads, affiliate links, repeated posts, or recruiting messages nobody asked for. Sharing a job you know about is fine; flooding the channel is not.
• Anything that infringes someone's copyright or trademark, or that impersonates another person, company, or official.
• Profanity aimed at people. Salty language among friends happens; keep it out of names, bios, and photos, and don't direct it at anyone.

If you're unsure whether something is safe for work, don't post it.

4. Safety on the road

• Don't use ten4 while driving. Park first. No post is worth a crash.
• 10-20 check-ins are coarse (city or highway) and off by default. Don't post anyone else's exact location, and think twice before posting your own.
• Road reports (10-13) should be honest. Don't post false hazards or closures.
• ten4 removes location data (GPS) from the photos and videos you upload, but what's in the picture, like signs, plates, or landmarks, is up to you.

5. Your content

• You keep ownership of what you post. You give the operator a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, display, copy, and distribute it as needed to run ten4. That includes sending public posts to other fediverse servers.
• Only post what you have the right to post.
• Deleting a post removes it from ten4 and asks other servers to delete their copies. Servers outside ten4 don't always honor that, so assume anything public may stay public.

6. The fediverse

ten4 connects only to other servers the operator has approved. Your public posts can be seen by people on those servers, and theirs can reach you. Other servers have their own rules and operators; ten4 isn't responsible for them. We can approve or cut off any server at any time.

7. Storage limits

• Each account gets 5 GB of storage for photos and videos. Text posts don't count.
• Videos are limited to 60 seconds and 50 MB each, and are converted to a smaller format. For longer videos, post a link.
• You'll see a warning at 80% and again at 95% full.
• If you go over 5 GB, just enough of your oldest photos and videos is scheduled for removal 14 days later. You'll see a notice with the list and the date, and you can download all your content at any time.
• Delete posts to get back under the limit before the date and nothing is removed. After the date, the scheduled media is permanently deleted. The posts stay, marked "media removed".
• ten4 isn't a backup service. Keep your own copies of anything that matters to you.

8. Moderation and enforcement

• Report posts or accounts that break these terms with the "Report" button. Admins review every report.
• We may remove content, limit, suspend, or delete accounts that break these terms or put people at risk, with or without notice. Serious or repeated violations mean a permanent ban.
• We may report illegal content, especially anything involving minors or credible threats of violence, to the authorities.

9. Privacy

• We store what's needed to run your account: your handle, a scrambled (hashed) password, your profile, your posts and media, who you follow, and a session cookie that keeps you signed in. We don't use ad trackers and don't sell your data.
• Your "tell us about you" note from your account request is only seen by admins.
• Server logs (IP addresses, for security and rate limiting) are kept for a short time.
• You can download your posts and media at any time from Storage. To delete your account, write to the admins on the contact page.
• Messages you send through the contact page (and any way to reach you that you leave there) are only seen by admins.

10. No warranty

ten4 is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. It may be unavailable, slow, or lose data. Road reports and other posts come from users; never rely on them over official sources, your own judgment, or the law. To the extent the law allows, the operator isn't liable for any indirect or consequential damages, or for anything posted by users or other servers.

11. Changes

We may change these terms. The version date at the top changes when we do, and you'll be asked to accept the new version before posting again. If you don't accept, you can still download your content and ask us to delete your account.

12. Contact
